Think about the best editor you’ve ever worked with. They didn’t hand your draft back covered in red ink. They read it, told you what it was doing well, and pointed you to the one or two changes that would make the biggest difference. You walked away with a stronger piece and a little more confidence than when you started.

That’s what we kept hearing from the people who use Markup AI every day. Marketers, content leads, and writers told us they don’t want another set of issues to work through. They want a guide. They want a partner who understands what they’re writing. They want a partner who knows who they’re writing it for. And they want a partner who helps them decide where to start, not just what to fix.

Today we’re introducing a brand new sidebar experience for Markup AI. It starts with marketers who use our Chrome extension in Google Docs and Google Slides. It’s built around one simple idea: Markup AI should work like the editor in your corner. It guides you to the changes that matter most, in an order that makes sense, for the readers you’re trying to reach.

How does Markup AI analyze my document?

Text under the heading Overall evaluating a launch post for a Markup AI sidebar feature, noting its strong value proposition while identifying a need for improvements to AI voice patterns, sentence clarity, and link integrity.

Here’s how it works. First, you give us your best content pieces or brand rules, or both! Then Markup AI turns those assets into enforceable guidelines for your writers.  You draft your content the way you always have. When you’re ready, open the Markup AI side panel and start a review.

Markup AI reads your document the way a professional editor would. It figures out what you’re writing, whether that’s a blog post, a press release, a support article, or a technical document, and gives you an overall assessment before it gives you a single suggestion.

In our demo, we checked a public-facing product roadmap announcement. The first thing Markup AI told us was what the document did well: it clearly explains what’s coming and when, with solid feature descriptions and a helpful timeline. hen it told us where to focus: AI voice patterns, sentence clarity, a broken link, and how to strengthen our message to land with our target audience.

That’s the conversation you’d have with a good editor. Here’s what’s working. Here’s what could be stronger. Here’s where to start. Before you change a single word, you know where your draft stands and what will make it better.

You don’t have to wait for the full picture, either. The high-level read comes back first, and the details fill in behind it as the analysis completes.

Focus Areas That Fit Your Document

A list titled Where to Begin with four steps for content refinement: Unpack the orchestration claim, Simplify long sentences, Lead with the pain point, and Final polish, each with a brief explanatory description.

A good guide doesn’t hand everyone the same map. They look at where you are and where you’re trying to go, then suggest the best path.

That’s how focus areas work. Markup AI scans your content, decides which outcomes matter for this specific piece, and suggests a few you can start with. A support article will surface different focus areas than a launch blog, because the outcomes that matter are different.

You don’t need to know which agent does what, whether it’s relevant to you, or how its results fit with everything else. You pick the outcome. We handle the routing.

In our roadmap example, the focus areas included cutting the marketing fluff, simplifying the content, and fixing accuracy issues.

Guidance You Can Act On

Behind each focus area, Markup AI coordinates a team of Content Guardian Agents℠ on your behalf. It brings in only the checks that are relevant to your document. It combines findings when two checks spot the same thing. It weighs confidence so the strongest recommendations rise to the top. Then it ranks and groups everything around the outcome you chose, so your guidance reads like a story about your document, not a report from a machine.

What you get is a focused set of suggestions you can act on right away. You stay in control the whole time.

Meet Your Readers Before You Publish

Based on the type of document, Markup AI identifies different personas who are likely to read it and simulates how each one would receive your content. A roadmap announcement might land in front of a prospect evaluating your product, an existing customer looking for what’s new, and a technical buyer checking the details. Each wants something different, and each can stop reading for a different reason.

Persona simulation shows you where a skeptical buyer would roll their eyes, where a busy executive would bail, and where a technical reader would want more proof. You can fix it while it’s still a draft.

If the initial picks don’t match your audience, you can adjust, reduce, or swap them. Think of it as a focus group you can run before your draft ever goes out.

Work the Way You Think

An editing suggestion titled Header as question that advises rephrasing a header to match AI search queries, with a Rewrite example and options to dismiss, add as a comment, or apply.

Every writer has their own rhythm. Some people like to knock out the big wins first. Others like to read top to bottom, the way their audience will. So the sidebar gives you three ways to work through your suggestions:

  • Focus areas: tackle one outcome at a time, like clarity or accuracy.
  • Priority groups: start with the most important changes and save the smaller ones for later.
  • Document order: start at the top and work your way to the bottom.

When you’re done, it’s time to get it ready to publish.

What this Release Delivers

Think about a marketing team publishing twenty pieces a week. Every one of those drafts deserves a thoughtful editor, and no team has enough of them to go around. What they need is a guide that can look at each piece, tell them where their time is best spent, and help them get it out the door with confidence.

A guide doesn’t replace your judgment. It sharpens it. You still make every call, but you make it with an expert’s perspective beside you. That’s what this release is about.

It’s also the foundation for what comes next. We’re continuing to build new agents across brand, accuracy, AI visibility, and compliance. Every one of them now plugs into the same guided experience. That means each new agent adds more expertise to your corner, without adding more for you to manage.

Less like a checklist. More like a coach.

Where to Find It
